What IELTS score do I need for Australian skilled migration?

Most skilled migration visas (subclass 189, 190, 491) require at least IELTS 6.0 in each component, but many occupations on the MLTSSL require 7.0+ in all four skills. A Competent English requirement is the minimum; Proficient English (7.0 each) or Superior English (8.0 each) adds significant points to your SkillSelect Expression of Interest.

Does writing score affect my visa points?

Yes significantly. Moving from Competent English (6.0) to Proficient English (7.0 in all skills) adds 10 points to your SkillSelect EOI. Moving to Superior English (8.0+) adds 20 points. Writing is typically the hardest skill to improve quickly — which is why targeted practice with detailed feedback matters.
